Between Volta Mantovana, Solferino, Ponti sul Mincio, Monzambano, Cavriana and Castiglione delle Stiviere, the area of ​​the morainic hills of Alto Mantovano contains over a thousand hectares of vineyards, from which the prized range of DOP Garda Colli Mantovani originates: Merlot, Cabernet , Red, a production of rosé, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot grigio, Pinot blanc, Chardonnay. Also produced are IGP Province of Mantua – Rosato, Novello, Rosso passito, Bianco, Rosso – common to the entire Mantua area, and IGP Alto Mincio specific to the moraine hills – Rosato, Novello, Rosso passito, Bianco, Rosso. The offer is completed by three variations of classic method sparkling wine made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes: a White, a Brut and a Rosé. The area around the lake from Benia is the land of origin of renowned labels such as Garda Classico DOC Bianco/Rosso and Rosso Superiore/Chiaretto/Groppello and Groppello Riserva, Garda Bresciano DOC Novello, San Martino della Battaglia DOC and San Martino della Battaglia DOC Liquoroso, Lugana DOC /Lugana DOC Superiore/Lugana DOC Sparkling wine. Located between the three provinces of Brescia and Verona, the Lugana area develops along the plain of morainic origin south of Lake Garda, enclosed between the Lombard municipalities of Sirmione, Pozzolengo, Desenzano, Lonato and the Veneto Peschiera del Garda.
The current production specification includes five different types of Lugana: Lugana DOC (or Lugana Base), Lugana Superiore DOC, Lugana Spumante DOC, Lugana Vendemmia Tardiva and Lugana Riserva. The production of DOC Valtenesi wines presents very important values ​​in terms of quantity and quality in the municipal areas of Pozzolengo, Sirmione, Desenzano and Lonato del Garda, reaching approximately 50% of the total bottles produced with the Controlled Designation of Origin, out of a total of approximately 5 million bottles of annual production. The Valtènesi Consortium protects various historical denominations still present in the area such as Garda Classico DOC (Garda DOC sub-area), Riviera del Garda Bresciano or Garda Bresciano DOC, San Martino della Battaglia DOC and the Igt Benaco Bresciano; of particular note, however, is the DOC Valtènesi, which identifies a portion of territory equal to approximately 600 hectares cultivated exclusively with red grapes. The “Garda Colli Mantovani” controlled designation of origin is reserved for white, rosé and red wines that meet the conditions and requirements established in a specific production specification; is reserved for the following wines: “Garda Colli Mantovani” white; “Garda Colli Mantovani” rosé; “Garda Colli Mantovani” red; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Merlot; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Cabernet; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Chardonnay; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Pinot bianco; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Pinot grigio; “Garda Colli Mantovani” Sauvignon.
The production area of ​​the wines of the controlled denomination of origin “Garda Colli Mantovani“, which falls within the more general denomination “Garda DOC”, includes in whole or in part the territories of the municipalities of Castiglione delle Stiviere, Cavriana, Monzambano, Ponti sul Mincio, Solferino and Volta Mantovana; alongside the production of IGT Alto Mincio.
