Villa Santa Maria

To the north of Castiglione delle Stiviere lay the “Via Gallica”, a strategic artery in the communications system of lower Garda, where the splendid Roman villas of Desenzano del Garda and Sirmione stood. And also from the Convent of S. Maria, in Castiglione, the remains of a villa have emerged, renamed Villa Santa Maria: the excavations have revealed a mosaic floor, dating back to the 1st-2nd century AD. and an underground thermal room, with a diameter of approximately 6 metres, used for wellbeing and for the celebration of rites.
