Via Carolingia. A journey on the roads of Europe

The path that Charlemagne took in the year 800 from Aachen to Rome has been patiently reconstructed in the Mantua section with suppositions supported by finds and documents found over the last few years. It starts from the Morainic Hills of Lake Garda and more precisely from Castiglione delle Stiviere passing through the medieval villages of Solferino, Castellaro Lagusello, Cavriana and Volta Mantovana. Today these places attract for the sweetness of the landscape and the tranquility of daily life, but each of them preserves in the stones living testimony of disputed lands, harsh battles and devastations that have occurred over the centuries, but also very high and noble examples of faith , humanity and greatness of soul. Two names are enough: San Luigi Gonzaga, global patron of youth and Henry Dunant, the inspirer of the International Red Cross.
