The road of wines and flavors of Garda
The Garda Wine and Flavor Route develops in the hinterland of the Lombard shore of Lake Garda, uniting Limone with Peschiera and spreading into the production areas of the DOC Garda Classico, Lugana and San Martino della Battaglia.
Along the route there are numerous places to visit, both overlooking the lake and inland where the landscape is enriched with hills and wooded mountains. In Gardone Riviera you cannot miss a visit to the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the house museum of Gabriele D’Annunzio. Other unmissable stops are the town of Salò, the Rocca di Manerba and its Natural Archaeological Park, the Rocca di Lonato with the Ugo da Como Foundation. From Lonato, on the tops of the hills on the southern edge of Valtenesi, through Calvagense della Riviera you arrive at Polpenazze, which is the epicenter around which the wine production of the western shore of Lake Garda revolves. Along this route there are many prominent points: from the 9th century Romanesque church of S. Pietro in Lucone in Polpenazze, to the Soiano Castle (9th century), up to the remains of the pile-dwelling village near the Sovenigo lake, in the territory of Puegnago. San Martino della Battaglia is also famous with the Torre Sacrario inaugurated in 1893, to commemorate the victory of the Piedmontese and French over the Austrians in 1859. Food and wine tourism here is perfectly reconciled with a natural and artistic heritage supported and enhanced by Lake Garda which, with its mild and breezy climate provides the practice of all water sports.
