– Castiglione delle Stiviere
Mount Merlo
Arid meadows are characterized by poor and dry soil: these factors are very important from a naturalistic point of view because they present an excellent habitat and therefore a great naturalistic biodiversity. Monte Merlo is the perfect example of the arid meadows of Castiglione; significant is the presence of some species of orchids of the Ophrys, Anacamptis, Cephalanthera, Orchis and Platanthera genera, and a notable entomological fauna among which stand out butterflies such as the Melithaea athalia and didyma, the most common and showy Macaoni, Podaliri, Occhi di Pavone, Vanesse Vulcano and Vanessa dell’ortica, as well as reptiles, small mammals and birds including many birds of prey. The climb rewards you with a breathtaking view.
