– Monzambano

Food and wine tradition

The economy of Monzambano is still based mainly on agricultural activity, which nowadays has been modernized and adapted to new cultivation and production techniques for wine, milk, cereals, oil, vegetables and fruit.
Indeed, we have evidence that the ancient Romans had already understood how suitable the local territory was for the cultivation of vines and olive trees.
Even currently the territory is rich in areas cultivated with vineyards. In the numerous local wineries we find excellent quality DOC wines (Garda Colli Mantovani) such as: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Chiaretto and sweet wines.
An oil, with a delicate flavour, qualified as DOP Garda Orientale, also comes from our olive groves. In the area there is also the only functioning oil mill in the province of Mantua.
Our milk is processed for the production of Grana Padano.
A new economic activity that is increasingly spreading is that of the direct sale of one’s own agricultural products (vegetables, fruit, jams, honey) which is accompanied by agritourism which has already been present for a few decades.
The guest can enjoy specialties such as: capunsei, meat agnoli, pumpkin tortelli, pike in sauce, donkey stew… and “fugasì” both in typical local trattorias and in characteristic farmhouses.
