Column of San Marco
The column of San Marco, at the top of which there is a winged lion with an open book, is located in the main square of the town in front of the Town Hall.
It is a symbol of the Serenissima Republic of Venice which governed Lonato from the mid-15th century until the end of the 18th century, for 350 almost uninterrupted years.
The Marcian column, before 1924, was located in the place where the War Memorial was erected, the work of the sculptor Luigi Conrati.
