Colombare of Sirmione
The Colombare area of Sirmione is located at the junction between the mainland and the entrance to the narrow Sirmione peninsula, in the heart of the municipal area and a stone’s throw from the historic centre. The name derives from an ancient farmhouse that has now disappeared.
Until the Second World War, a few rural homes dotted the expanse of fields that stood here: today Colombare of Sirmione is instead a residential area that offers numerous shops and commercial activities, tourist reception activities and services for citizens and tourists, including the Town Hall and the new Terme Virgilio establishment, open all year round.
Points of interest
Among the attractions of Colombare in Sirmione are the large green San Vito Park, Brema beach and Porto Galeazzi beach.
In the Sixties, from the desire of the rapidly expanding population to have its own spiritual point of reference, the Church of San Francesco arose, inaugurated in 1969.
The installation of the “Mother Stone: the Menhir of friendship and peace“, a stone sculpture by Maestro Giuseppe Bongiorno, dates back to 2012 in via XXV Aprile, at the beginning of the lakeside promenade.
