Church of the Morti della Selva

In what was once the “forest”, north of Drugolo, the small church was built inside a hospital which, since 1445, welcomed plague victims from Drugolo and nearby Padenghe.
The noble Averoldi family from Brescia used this place as a cemetery for plague victims in the 16th and 17th centuries, also sponsoring the works that gave the building its current appearance in the 18th century.
After years of abandonment, in 2013, following the intervention of the Orthodox Metropolia of Milan and Aquileia, the church was reconsecrated becoming an Orthodox Monastery.
Now the Monastery is a well-established reality and the three monks who look after it celebrate their liturgies every day.
