Church of Discipline

This suggestive oratory is located approximately halfway along Via Umberto I. The real name is Santa Maria Annunciata, but it is commonly called “la Disciplina” because it is linked to the presence and activity of the Confraternity of the Disciplinati. The simple facade of the church culminates at the top with the iron cross on the tympanum, under which a closed rose window can be seen.
The large entrance door is surrounded by one of the oldest portals in the country (17th century).
On the key of the arch the image of the Madonna is carved in bas-relief, welcoming two kneeling devotees under her mantle.
On the right side of the church there are service rooms once used for the activities of the disciplined brothers. To complete the building there is a small brick bell tower, built after 1640, culminating in a cell with four arched windows.
The interior of the building, illuminated by six lunettes, has a single nave with a trussed roof.
Along the left wall, in a shallow chapel, is the Altar of the Crucifix, consisting of a large table and a frontal decorated with geometric inlays.
