Castellaro Lagusello Nature Reserve and lake
The “Lagusello”, a heart-shaped lake that gave the village fame, is actually a lake of glacial origin. Having obviously retreated over the millennia due to climate change, and currently fed by two springs, it originally must have been certainly larger in size, constituting an important source of water for the place. Thanks to its presence since the Bronze Age, man has settled this territory.
Close to the lake, to the south, there is a Nature Reserve classified as the Mincio Park Nature Reserve. This area preserves numerous animal and plant species.
Within a rather limited radius, a series of different microclimates have been created which guarantee the ideal habitat for various rare animal and plant species, in some cases in danger of extinction.
For example, there are various orchids of rare beauty that can be found along this route: the Fior di Ragno orchid, the Piramidale, the Fiore d’Ape or the Giglio Caprino, just to name a few… The lake itself, however, in the spring and summer months, it is covered in water lilies which increase its charm.
The Reserve can be visited independently thanks to explanatory panels that accompany you along the route.
