Bronze copy of Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini
One of the rare bronze copies of the Pietà Rondanini made by the Marinelli foundry is located in the churchyard of the Cathedral.
It was erected in 1959 on the occasion of the inauguration of the International Red Cross Museum, to pay homage to Henry Dunant’s “all brothers”, the motto from which the Red Cross was born.
The cathedral churchyard was the first field hospital set up to help the wounded in the Battle of Solferino and San Martino (1859).
