Aloysian Historical Museum

In a building complex dating back to the first half of the 16th century there is the College of the Virgins of Jesus, founded on 21 June 1608 by the granddaughters of our Patron Saint: S. Luigi Gonzaga.

Cinzia, Olimpia and Gridonia, daughters of Rodolfo Gonzaga, brother of S. Luigi Gonzaga, follow their uncle’s example and found a congregation of noble girls who dedicate their lives to prayer, the education of girls and the relief of the poor. The ladies who entered the College had to bring with them a rich endowment of money and personal equipment as well as furniture, a vast array of furnishings, portraits and paintings.
Of indisputable artistic value is the so-called “St. Louis Clock” donated to Marta Tana, who was then expecting her firstborn. The refined relic in the shape of a Renaissance temple was created by the illustrious hand of Jan Valin.
