Homage to Gen. C.A. Bersagliere, Ugo Montemurro
Ugo Montemurro was a highly decorated Italian general.
Commander of the 4th Cycling Battalion during the First World War, in 1939 he was assigned to command the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment. At the outbreak of the Second World War he fought extensively in North Africa. He was then sent to Russia in 1942, where he fought until the following year and participated in the Resistance between 1944 and 1945.
After the hostilities ended he was promoted to General for War Merit. He retired at the age of 58 in Negrar and presided over the War Orphans Association, also becoming Vice President of the National Bersaglieri Association. He was also a talented painter.
He died in Sirmione in 1979, in whose cemetery he rests today.
