Lugana wine

Lugana is a small, wonderful area adjacent to the southern shore of Lake Garda, which from Desenzano crosses Sirmione to Peschiera and continues within the territories of Pozzolengo and Lonato. Here the soil, influenced by the remote morainic origin, is made up of a varied combination of predominantly calcareous clay rich in mineral salts.

Condensing in a few lines the merits of the wines and the natural wonders of the Lugana DOC area is a very difficult undertaking, so much so that the best possible synthesis is obtained by tasting a Lugana DOC combined with a good plate of delicious lake fish and visiting a Lugana company .

The wine of Lugana, with its astonishing oenological potential, selected over the centuries by local winemakers, is indelibly marked by the land that gives it birth and which gives it the great flavour, structure, frankness and harmony of aromas and tastes that captivate for intensity and character; it is obtained with grapes coming from an indigenous vine called Turbiana (Trebbiano di Lugana), in quantities of no less than 90%; The addition of local white-fruited and non-aromatic vines is permitted, up to a maximum of 10%. Lugana has a color that varies from bright straw yellow, with more or less accentuated greenish nuances, to the golden yellow of more mature wines.
The aroma is delicate, pleasant and characteristic, with hints of flowers and white pulp fruit, sometimes of yeast, vanilla and apricots; the taste is fresh and harmonious, soft and particularly delicate.
From a careful selection of the best grapes, vinified and aged for at least a year, Lugana Superiore is obtained, an intense, full-bodied wine, with hints of fresh spices and ripe fruit, savory and structured, which can withstand a few years of aging without problems.

To better appreciate its characteristics according to Luigi Veronelli:
“Drink your Lugana young, very young and you will enjoy its freshness. Drink it two or three years old and you will enjoy its completeness.
Lugana, which is rare in wines, have an extraordinary ability to make themselves recognisable. You taste a Lugana and, if you are a good taster, you cannot forget it.
A great painter is recognisable, just like a great musician: every time, when he presents himself with a work, one senses that it is his, it is a way of presenting himself that is born in that moment”.

Through the sparkling process, carried out according to the Charmat method or the classic method, from the same grapes used to produce the Bianco, Lugana Spumante DOC is obtained, straw-coloured, with a lively and consistent perlage, a fresh, intense aroma and a hint of yeast; the taste is harmonious, dry and balanced.
